Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in the Niger Delta(STAND PROJECT)
A SUMMARY OF GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT ACTION (GADA) AND STAKEHOLDER DEMOCRACY NETWORK (SDN) IN IKA COMMUNITY
On the STAND project, GADA worked in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. Ika community is predominantly an Annang speaking part of Akwa Ibom state that is made of three (3) clans namely: Ito, Achan and Odoro clans.
Ika Local Government Area shares boundaries with the Azumini Local Government Area, Ukanafun Local Government Area and Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The focus of the project is capacity building for advocacy, community sensitization, networking and research. The principal objective of the project was to enhance the capacity of communities to identify their core needs, articulate the needs and adopt appropriate advocacy strategies for securing positive responses from targeted stakeholders. GADA’S ACTIVITIES UNDER THE SOUTH-SOUTH WOMEN POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT
GADA PH while still anchoring the Women Political Empowerment Project is still mentoring women to become interested and take part in the democratic processes.
The Zonal Women Political Empowerment Project Office in implementing its plan of action for the year 2009 had been able to carry out advocacy visits to Female Party Leaders and Stakeholders in the Political process. Advocacy visits were made to the Rivers State PDP woman leader, which is geared towards popularizing female candidature and mobilizing support for female participation in politics to attain a maximum representation in the next political dispensation.
Affairs Directors in Rivers State, Delta State and Edo State and representation of women in elective positions and to plan for the proposed strategy meetings. Read more...
Advocacy visits were also carried out to Nigerian Association of Female Journalists (NAWOJ), media houses such as African Independent Television (AIT), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) all in Rivers State. These visits were to create a collaboration that will assist to mobilize support for women aspirants and provide media visibility to their campaigns.
